Untitled post #69



Recently I had to replay RE3R because the save was lost in the format shenanigans I had a while ago (I have it cracked, so saves are stored in C), and it made me think more on making a zombie enemy for the game, basically female science/researchers that are infected with some shit or something and want pussy cat juice.

Although not sure if this fits the overall feeling for the chibi game, for the remake sure, I will aim for a sci fi semi horror thing.

And yes, I know, I haven't touched the game in a while, recently and got a new pc and I got into one of my patented depression seasons or something where I just can't bring myself to get started again, hard time regaining momentum.

Status Report

 I'm working on the submit system. Right now I'm still on the fence on whether or not to keep the downed state, since the enemies most enemies attack on melee range, so when they knock chibi down, there's really not time to fill the bar and get up, so it kinda is an necessary step. I felt that way in the original too. I'll leave it for now, but if I don't find a good excuse for it, it's gone.

So right now the submit only affects the grabbing and snuggling states; I made a nice pink flash screen effect and a text notification on corruption gained. I'm also playing with audio effects to have a moan with echo at the moment of submission, and also would liek one for when Will (Hp) reaches 0.


As of right now, to escape, you wiggle left/right, and to submit, you press Up/Down, but I think I might simplify this and just making it mashing Left to escape and Right to submit, since the new escape bar is oriented that way. Next order of business is what submitting actually does, both in regards to impact to the game state, and the motivation; because I don't want it to be just for thristy bois, it has to have some reason to be.

Probbly no one remembers, but waaay back in the day, there was this poor fella that was making a RE hentai game, called RE Progeny (the link to it still works), he actually made me the title screen song for the flash game, but I digress. In that game, there's a stamina system in place in order to escape zombie grabs, so if you don't manage it properly, you might get into an unscapable grab, for those cases, there's a submit option, wichi saves hp, in exchange for gaining corruption and virus infection. So the submission actually has gameplay value instead of just giving access to more slutty dialogue.

That's what I want, the submission giving you something in exchange of something else; I just need to think of something that makes sense and is not so cookie cut as just mitigating dmg. I think my idea of having a dark path where you defeat enemies by sexing them is too soon to try in this chibi one, I'll save that for the remake; I'm still debating on the whole arousal bar and the horny status, I still don't know what I want to happen when chbi gets max corruption.


I removed the auto masturbation when horny, was causing too many animation glitches, and I never really liked it anyway, even if you know why it's happenning, it's never a good feel when the game takes control away from you "out of the blue", so that will be manual going forward, I'm thinking for startes it will serve to lower the arousal bar without gaining corruption, or restoring hp at the expense of gaining a bit of corruption; of course, there's no need to have the masturbation be a trade off, but that sort of thing always adds a lil'bit of deep or strategy, I always liked how in Super Metroid you lose energy when doing a shinespark, it was a nice little immersion thing, sadly it never actually comes into play, save for being a hindrance in low% speed runs, so I get why they took it out in the next games, but a nice tough nonetheless.


Also working on the "happy" state for the enemies, I... Actually don't remember if I added that to the original, that after sex the enemy stays there, laying satisfied, allowing you to get away, but if I didn't, I will now, chibi will also stay in the ground a bit after sex, but only if the animationplayed all the way of course, no sense on it happenning if you wiggle out.


There's a lot more work in store, but I won't bore you with the details. As for the next build, I want to have the submit mechanic done, and the enemies to have more behaviors, there still will be the same 2, but there's gonna be more interaction with them, and hopefully it will be more interesting.

Chibi SpacEscape Ver 0.4

 Updated the "game". 

Change log:

  • Stuff and things.
Known issues:
  • Movement issues:  Caused by left analog stick drift. SOLUTION: Either try to put the stick in a neutral position, unplug it, or use is for movement instead of pad/WASD
  • Teleport in green area - Caused by accessing the save room, it will fuck up spawn points. SOLUTION: Don't enter the red doors (save is not implemented yet anyway, I should not have included them)
  • Stuck after pausing - Seems to be caused if you pause/unpause too quickly, some variables are tied to the fade in/out of the screen so I guess they miss the timing if the inputs are too fast. SOLUTION: More frantic pausing?
  • Broken Discord invite - Confirmed. Already fixed, will be ready next build.
  • Bad zoom centering - I encountered this a couple of times but with the dialogue box from skill pick up, not sex animation, need more investigation

Now if you excuse me, I'll go to the bunker to brace for impact of the tidal wave of bug reports.

Change of plans

 I'm gonna update the chibi game within this week. No save system yet, it's lloking a bit more complex than I thought, and when I'm unsure about how to proceed in something, I tend to procrastinate, so I'll just skip it for this next build, instead, the slime will have some basic sex animations.

Collectables

 I was thinking on if I should add a mario like coin item to the game, to kinda fill up the space in the stages, but until that, I added some hp increase items, they are finite, sorta like the ones from CSoTN, also thinking to reduce the initial hp amount so they feel like an upgrade instead of just a bonus, say like 40 or 50 initial, and then you find one in each section.

Oh, and also got that pop up messages working too, I wonder if I should add a music fanfare too.

Doodle

 Made a small thing with those new sprites I made. With the pletora on games I want to eventually try to replicate, I decided to give it a try, in this case, an isometric platformer (Solstice).

Definitively di not expect all the problem solving just to get something resembling a jump working; since everything has to be faked, and the physics engine can do little to help you. Of course, the easiest solution, is making the thing #d and just use spites instead of meshes, but I'm not about to dabble into 3d just yet, besides, if they could figure it out back in the day when 3d didn't even existed, I should be able to come up with something.

Don't expect anything big, this was made in basically a day, just move and jump, but at least I got my feet wet for when I try the real thing.

Mechanic

Just a little mechanic I thought of throwing in there. Basically before you have the means (don't ask me what are those) to masturbate yourself, when the arousal is at a certain threshold, Chibi will start masturbating on her own if you stay still for a time.

Next in queue is coding the saving system, and then the first sex animation for the Wolf, then I'll update the game.

After a literal million years... PROGRESS

The current roadmap for the near future is making a grappling animation where the wolfie licks Chibi pussy or nibbles at her breast while she's down. I want the next milestone to have a demo update with somewhat complete wolfies, with their current knock attack, grapple, and snuggle struggle animation; I will probably also remove temporarily the slimy bois since until I add more complexity for them. Also, I figured what I will use the little glowing circle in the HUD, although I feel like I have kinda said this before, it's gonna be used for a new stat: poise.

The way poise will work is, you remember how in the OG game, you lose your clothes first, then you get knocked down, then snuggle struggle, now, the factor that will determine if you get knocked is the poise, if you reach 0 poise, you get down, regardless of clothes. Clothing now will add a bonus to poise; if you're nekked, you'll still have some poise, but it will be very weak, so if you decide to do a nekked challonge run, you won't be knocked by everything.

Also, as stated previously (but if ya'll don't remember I don't blame you), Chibi's arousal will impact your ability to fill the struggle bar. Different from the OG, this time around there's gonna be 2 naughty stats: arousal and lust, arousal will be the primary one, being filled by engaging in sexy activities, every time the arousal bar is maxed out, lust will increase, and then going to factor lust amount when calculating how much the struggle bar fills/empties, the more lust, the harder will be to break free, and, like always, at a certain lust threshold, you won't be able to escape, it will get right to snuggle struggle right away.

Stream #6/20/21

 What the hell did I do this time?

- Worked on more animations for the chibi wolf: sleeping, waking up, barking, and a little setup for the sprites for exporting into Godot.

- Inking on a sketch I did of Futastuko getting nailed by tentacles.

Thanks to the batreon fiasco, I had to set up a new page (link is the last one in the right side of the blog), and made a new gmail account; on the bright side, that means another google drive, so I can post more VODs of streams there.

On the Patreon situation

 Currently trying to sort this one out. Long story short, I should have sticked to my guns and use the page solely as a tip jar and not post anything there.

As a precaution, if you have pledge, please back out of it, because if the situation is not solved by the 1st of next month, all the pledges will go to Patreon, and I don't think anyone wants to give them free money.

I will still keep using Patreon tho, worst case scenario I will just make a new account focusing on art to avoid further issues. I'll keep you posted.

So, funny story; I was bored out of my mind, nothing to watch on youtube, tv or twitch, so I just mindlessly clicked on Dragon's Dogma on twitch, for the hell of it, and started to watch a guy playing, and then a wolf grabbed him (they have an attack when they bite-grab you and you have to wiggle the stick to get free), and I got inspired and jumped to Animate this before I forget about it.

Been busy being distracted watching Lupan the 3rd, but now I'm back.

It was a quick distraction. I ended up watching only the most recent ones, the original did not age very well, like at all.

The "stamina" of the guns is done. Each shot fills the bar a little while it's constantly trying to get to 0, if it fills, you can't shoot for a time and then the bar resets. And each weapon fills it and depletes it at a different rate. The real inspiration came from an old SNES game called Cybernator, but for all you whipersnappers, think the plasma gun from Halo. I mainly added this to try and balance the combat a bit, you gotta be careful how much you are gonna let the player do or the game becomes dull and brain dead. Furthermore, I'll work to make each weapon have a different rate of fire, right now you can shoot as fast as your finger can mash, although now with the overheat thing, maybe I can leave it at that.

"Weekly" Report

I spent all day yesterday working on the pause menu.
This is like the 4th iteration of the design, still not done tho.

I also made a little animation of Chibi's legs giving up and falling when she's defeated, then the game fades to black and you get the game over screen. I'll expand on it having a dialogue box pop up with her basically saying she surrenders so the enemies can have their way with her.

Also, I'll add 2 new parameters to Chibi's stats: Lust and Arousal.
Arousal works as you would expect, being controlled by the sex animations.
Lust, in the other hand, will increase each time arousal gets maxed out, and if Lust gets maxed out, then you get a GoR/bad ending thingy.

Progress Report

 Animations for the save room are done, just need to actually save shit.

Also expanded a bit on the behavior on dead, instead of just reloading the scene, now it has a fade to black, then takes you to a GoR screen with the usual options to continue or load, etc.

Progress Report

 Pause menu is almost done. Added gamepad functionality (you can still use the mouse), you can move to the different buttons, activate them and cancel, all with sounds, also the progress bar updates with whatever skills you have adquired. While I was at it, and adding whatever to fill in types of shot, I started to think how I would do the ice one, and realized it would be pretty easy, so I went and did it; right now works on the slimes, you shoot them and the freeze in place, you can't attack them further, but their collision gets enabled when frozen and you can step on them, so that could be useful; I also added the code to use damage types, that will let me have resistances and weaknesses, and since the floating damage numbers are working (1000% better than in the flash game, might I add), I will be able to do them like I wanted but couldn't do back in the day, something like in the DS Castlevanias, where if you hit an enemy with an attack they are resistant to, they'd flash blue, if you hit them with their weakness, they would flash red, and they would flash normal if you hit them with a neutral attack; I will also make it so that the bigger the damage you do, the bigger the floating damage numbers will be.

Then I have to make the save room and implement the save/load feature, since there's something to save now; don't know yet  I would add some type of encrypting to it (since I'm pretty sure Godot will just create a text file as a save), this little thing is not exactly what you would call challenging (not yet, at least), btw, for those who played the latest version; did anyone managed to get the wavebeam without any skill? How tough is that jump in your opinnion? But I digress, so yeah, if ppl would want to mess with the save file who am I to stand in their way? But I think at least I will have a basic layer of encrypting, just so the save is not a lousy text file.

In other news

I already finished testing the whole sprite swapping thing, and it's working now, right now I have 6 versions:

  • Normal
  • Normal but without the jacket
  • Nude with jacket
  • Nude with no jacket
  • Futa
  • Futa with jacket
So, the question if "there is gonna be alternate outfits" is yes AND no. When I make the remake, it will have other outfits to change into, but it's not gonna be like in the Flash version with different layers, aka underwear and main clothing; that'll make way too much sprite sheets, as I would need one for each combination of things, and I already can tell a difference in loading time with just these 6; but if there was even gonna be alternate outfits, this is the only way, so.

Also, I have it set it up with it's own hp, right now the jacket has 25hp and the suit 25, so if you get 25 points of damage you end naked, and since there's no items other than a recovery hp one, I made it so you regain clothes when you go back to full hp; not that the shit brings any type of challenge whatsoever to even worry about losing hp in the first place.

So next in line still is enemy AI, but even with that I don't feel like there's enough content to justify another version, this thing needs and objective, instead of just running around, so I will working on adding some good'ol key cards for doors, and restructuring the levels so the skills are required to advance, and, with the amount of variables there are right now, it is time to start working on the save system too.

Known Issues:

-Going down the semi solid platforms got somehow screwed and is now performed by pressing just DOWN

-Speed bug with the dash skill, if you press the dash continually with out pressing a direction, your speed will keep adding and you'll get yeeted out of bounds

 I expect the next version to have toggleable clothes in some way, either by a debug button press, or just regular damage.

The other thing I need to work on, is enemy AI, gonna try implementing something called finite state machines, which, ironically, I did learned in college, but they were taught to me in such a horrible way, and the experience was so miserable, that it never crossed my mind  they could be useful here in video game making.

This is more tricky than Falsh's, because I can't just modify the player's X and Y position directly so it will take a bit more effort to make a more complex one, like the old yeet Mitsuko had in the Flash version when she got knocked down.

Unstable branch uploaded on Patreon

 I just posted the work on the game up to date for patrons as unstable branch, meaning is not cleaned up for release, aka there are still known bugs that I would like to squash before. Namely the ladders; I'll give myself a week's time from now, if I can't figure it out, I'll release it to everyone regardless.

Progress so far.

Last week something came over me, and I went in a pretty good developing craze, and the version I'm rocking now looks nothing like the one above, so much changed I won't ever bother trying to summarize, might as well start the changelog from this one forward. I'm pretty close to have it ready, so I'll wait until, and again, patrons will have it a week earlier, after it will release to the public.

PROGRESS REPORT

Decided to start a "unstable" branch of the game, on patreon. Where I can upload some updates earlier that may or may not be bug ridden; while using the blog to post the "stable" versions, supposedly cleaned up and ready for sharing. Just something else I thought I could throw in for patrons. Also this finally scratchs that itch of having a patreon but not posting a version of the game there.
Progress so far...

The ladders are, as far as the technicality goes, working. Just have to smooth some rough edges when Chibitsuko climbs up the end, as she doesn't stop when she gets to ground level, you have to keep going until the ladder ends and then you fall a bit until you hit the platform. No breaking bugs that I could find, like getting stuck forever in the climbing animation. Also made it possible to shoot from the ladder, only just right and left, maybe I'll add up and down, but we'll see.

Gave the charging another go, and this time went smoothly, so now I have a charging mechanic going. Works well as far as I tested it, aside that if you collect the wave beam, the charge shot will still be the same. That being said, I'm very interested in doing something like in Super Metroid, where you can combine different types of shot, and expanding on it, like having enemies being vulnerable only to certain combinations, or objects you can only destroy with a certain beam; encouraging experimentation, although I see how it can get tedious to pause and change beam ever so often, maybe I'll do a quick swap loadout like in Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia, so you can save beam combos and switch them on the fly with a button.

After I went back and retouched the running animations, I ended up liking the side view one, so instead of debating which one to use, I added both, the side view one works as a "sprint", triggered as you would expect, by pressing the same direction twice, works all fine and dandy, let's you move faster, and you retain momentum if you jump, although I'm not sure if I should also make it so you jump higher also, kinda like Mario Jumpman Bros.

Added a little starting nexus room, from where you can access different levels, tried to make it a bit more interesting spreading the current upgrades in each one, but level design is something I should look into because I have no idea how to make levels interesting.

Added a little animation for when the shots hits a wall or enemy, really improves the whole shooting mechanic. 

Modified the door to change levels to manual instead of auto, so now you have to stand in front and press UP to enter, with a little animation for Chibitsuko turning towards the door. Will add a fade out screen effect later.

Added a landing animation, but unlike in the original, it only triggers when you land from a jump, for now. I had a thought of adding that falling animation I did a while of Chibitsuko crashing into the ground for when you fall from too high, just for the laughs, wouldn't add fall dmg to a platformer, Bubsy (SNES) already showed us that's not cool.

As for the stable version, I want to add the hud at least as a place holder, and a dmg animation so the slimes hurt you, as well as some environmental hazards, even if you can't actually take dmg.

Mmm...Well, once again, I've added the head turn to the running animation. And once again I'm not so sure about it.Could it either be the base animation is not suited for that (meaning a more side view one will be better), or the actual head turn is too dramatic. Also, ignore the cute little cherry lollipop bouncing around.

Status Report

 So, yeah, finally was able to get away from playing Dragons Dogma...again... Funny thing is was just a simple mini rage quit that did it when I died to some bullshit and lost some amount of progress (I don't even remember what is was ;V), but anyways , back to business.

If you can't remember, last thing I was doing is ladders, so this week (or rather, last week) I worked a bit more on that, and I still stumped by it, funny thing is, by the looks of it, the way I implemented them in Flash seems to be the right way, I had a main area the covers the ladder, so the player knows when there is a ladder, and also 2 other more areas, one at the top, one at the bottom, to know where the ladder begins and ends. That will be particularly useful this time for triggering and playing that little animation at the end that transitions the climbing pose to the idle one, instead of just being instant. 

The stump part comes from Godot itself, I kinda know how I want to make it, I just don't know exactly how to make it in Godot; and more funny enough, seems like no one is making ladders in their games anymore or something, because I found an alarming lack of info tutorials or help in that regard, maybe is because everyone either makes 3D fps's, or pixel platformers. But regardless, I'll set that aside from now, I'm confident it will come naturally along the way the more I know how to use Godot so I can figure it out how to make what I want.

Yesterday I made a climbing edge animation, and a couple sex ones, one doggy blowjob (side view), and recycled the dog's motion and just flipped Chibitsuko and voilá, doggy vaginal :V
Will be able to share that next week, because patrons get to see that shit earlier.

Regarding what's next. Probably the hud, health and losing mechanics. You know, the usual, like 3 hearts, you lose them and then the stage is reset and you respawn. Back when I made that last wolfie animation where its rubbing onto Chibitsuko and then ends in snuggle struggle in the floor, I made a few changes to its body parts, so the animations I had previously need to be reworked because they broke, that should come soon also, I want to add it to the game asap, if only to be running around for now.

EDIT: Oops, after coming back to check for comments, I realized that the animation I talked about in the post is one of those ones that I forgot still to post here, so...
